Three bright orange paper calendula flowers in a shadow box. When I first picked these flowers to make them in paper I thought that I was growing three different types of calendula. It turns out that these are actually three stages of bloom. I painted the background bright blue in reference to the sky on a sunny day, which is what these cheerful flowers remind me of. I have written the Latin name for the plant, "Calendula officinalis", on a piece of heavy watercolour paper and mounted it above the blooms.
The painted wooden box is 6 x 9 inches and 3/4 of an inch deep. It is green on the outside and blue inside. There is hanging hardware on the back and it is signed.
Each of my paper flowers is handmade with care and attention to detail. This sculpture is made from Italian crepe paper, wire, acrylic paint, and glue. Using high quality materials and careful techniques ensures that my flowers will last a long time. These flowers have also been sprayed with a UV protectant. I include care tips with each purchase. This unique shadow box would make a fun addition to a cabinet of curiosities, a bookshelf, or an art collection. I welcome custom orders for paper flowers; these shadowboxes make a wonderful, thoughtful gift.
