About
Hi! I'm Linda, a paper artist who makes life-like botanical sculptures in my home studio in Almonte, Ontario, Canada. I have loved to make things since I was a child, and earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts at York University (2003) where I studied drawing, painting, and art history.
I've been making paper flowers for over 15 years now. I love the challenge of creating three dimensional shapes. My first flowers were giant -5 feet tall- and made for a trade show booth. Since then my work has become true to scale and botanical detail. I often mount my flowers in shadow boxes to better protect and show them off.
My first paper flower shadow box came about after visiting an exhibit of botanical paintings entitled "Art of the Plant" at the Museum of Nature in Ottawa. I was so inspired that I rushed home to mount one of my flowers in the style of vintage botanical illustrations. Here is my Centaurea montana from 2018:
I use many types of paper for my pieces, choosing each one to match the texture and qualities of the flower that I'm making. I often dye the paper or paint it. I also use wire and lots of glue. One of my goals is that my flowers are long-lasting. I layer the paper for strength and spray the finished pieces with UV protectant spray.
You can read more about my inspiration and process in this blog post.
I have a selection of recent projects that you can browse here.
